Livia Tirone studied Architecture at the University of Westminster in London.

Joining forces with Ken Nunes, in 1989, set up the company TIRONE NUNES in Portugal, becoming market leaders in designing and promoting “sustainable construction” with over 200 dwellings inhabited by satisfied Clients and over 4.000 metre square of office and commercial areas, the best known probably still being Torre Verde (the first residential bio-climatic tower in EXPO ’98, Lisbon).

Between September 2000 and September 2005, Livia Tirone chaired the Task Force Environment and Sustainable Architecture for the Architects Council of Europe in Brussels and between January 2003 and January 2004 the Working Group Sustainable Construction Methods and Techniques for the European Commission’s Directorate General Environment.

Between May 2004 and December 2009, nominated by the Municipality of Lisbon, Livia Tirone held the post of Delegate Administrator of the Lisbon Municipal Energy and Environment Agency, immediately introducing the energy-environmental dimension into the city’s programmes and actions, which are quantified in the European Green City Index promoted by the Economist. Livia Tirone was elected councillor in the opposition of the Lisbon Municipality, for the mandate of 2009 until 2013.

In November 2007 TIRONE NUNES launched the SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION Initiative in Portugal, consisting of a web site (Construção Sustentável), a book authored by Livia Tirone and co-authored by Ken Nunes and a series of conferences, workshops and seminars. This communication platform is of strategic importance for the mainstreaming of sustainable construction and sustainable urban development.
